Frequently Asked Questions

Who do I coach?

If you’re motivated, committed, ready and willing to do what it takes to achieve your aspirations, then you’re who I coach.  I have the tools, resources, education, and powerful questions to help you reach your goals, but at the end of the day, you are the one who has to make the lasting and sustainable changes in your life.  The key themes with my clients are goal achievement, health and wellness, and personal development.

How do I coach?

We start by figuring out exactly what our ultimate outcome is and why this is important to you in the first place. Great coaching should always be about good clear directions and measurable outcomes.  Beyond that, we find out the Deeper Why behind your goals.  A lot of coaches focus on WHAT their clients’ goals are, and certainly this is an important piece of any coaching puzzle, but often that is the only question they ask or where they stop.  I have come to learn and firmly believe that asking and answering the question WHY has a far greater impact on the progress a client than simply answering the questions of what they want and how are they going to get it.

Where do we coach?

Mostly we connect on Zoom. It’s very common for coaches to work in this way these days and obviously means we can both coach while in any environment. With Zoom you can connect via smartphone app as well as computer. If necessary, you may simply call in as a normal voice-only phone call.

I’m generally in US Mountain Time, but I regularly work with clients from all over the world as long as we are able to suitably synch time zones.

I also offer face-to-face coaching in the Denver, CO metropolitan area.  I have the honor and the privilege to be part of the Clayton Members Club located in downtown Denver.   On top of being part of a community founded on opportunity, equity, and inclusion, I have access to comfortable and private meeting spaces at the club that provide for a comfortable and unique coaching experience.

What coaching is & isn't

The world’s premier body for credentialing professional coaches (and my credentialing body), the International Coaching Federation defines coaching it as,

“… partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

A major piece to emphasize here is partnership. A professional coach isn’t a mentor, consultant, therapist, or advisor. We don’t have your answers, but what we do have is some really good questions that help you discover your answers. This isn’t to say that I don’t have knowledge, insights, observations, resources, hacks, and skills which might be of value that I don’t offer.  It would be a major disservice (not to mention unethical!) to you as a client to withhold any of this.  However, professional coaches view their role as a partner in service of your change, growth, development and towards maximizing your potential.  If there are resources that we can offer, and that you don’t have initially, that can help you along your journey, we will certainly offer them.  A key aspect, though, is we are interested in helping you to craft your own strategies for learning, growth, and change and support you to make those happen.

Also, professional coaching is all about forward momentum via action—going from a current stuck or unfulfilled place in life to realizing your goals and aspirations. This forward-orientation description is a simplistic way to highlight the differences between coaches and psychotherapists. The latter are generally preoccupied with healing the past in order to have an easier present and future, whereas coaches are more interested in discovering how you’d like your life to be and creating practical strategies to get there.

What sets your company apart from others?

On a personal level, I am someone who can be deeply empathetic with people around me, and it’s that genuine care and curiosity that makes the difference in my opinion.  Understanding why something is important to my clients is important to me because I genuinely care about their outcomes and want to be as much of service to them as possible.  I feel like this is the linch pin in having more successful client outcomes and a greater sense of fulfillment on both sides of the coaching relationship.  I have the skills, knowledge, and resources to help any client get what they want, but knowing their Deeper Why (and having clients acknowledge it to themselves) makes a huge difference.  This is inspiration behind the company name “Aspire To”.  We’re not just simply accomplishing goals in peoples’ lives – aspirations go much deeper longing of what we want to be as well as achieve in and with our lives.
